Fluorescent DNA Fragment Analysis is a widely adopted method in molecular biology. Its analysis workflow consists of four general steps: DNA extraction, PCR amplification, Capillary Electrophoresis, and data analysis. It facilitates measuring the relative size of DNA fragments with a very high resolution and reproducibility, by Capillary Electrophoresis of fluorescent labelled DNA fragments on an automated DNA Capillary Electrophoresis analyzer. DNA fragments are sized by comparison to internal fluorescent DNA Size Standards.
A wide variety of applications, including microsatellite marker analysis, SNP genotyping, and more can be performed using Fragment Analysis. Widely adopted, proven instruments for automated Fragment Analysis are the Applied Biosystem® ABI Genetic Analyzers and Promega Spectrum.
